NYRs: Sarah Hall

  • About the author MS

The date has passed but the milk’s still good. Here are answers from Sarah Hall, author of The Electric Michelangelo, Haweswater, and forthcoming in March, Daughters of the North:

What was the best book of the year?
Winter’s Bone by Daniel Woodrell. It’s the most exhilarating thing I read in 2007.

What was the best movie?
Volver by Pedro Almodovar (I only just got round to seeing it and it’s brilliant!)

What was the best song/album?
White Chalk by P. J. Harvey. She has such extraordinary talent.

Who was the person of the year?
Probably someone who has been overlooked. The best people usually are.

What is your New Year’s resolution?
Try to relax more. I think I said that last year too didn’t I?! Oh dear, must try harder…

Any predictions for 2008?
Things warming up and getting wetter. And our governments not doing enough about it.
