Welcome to the first edition of Harper Perennial Pets, where we’ll be spotlighting the furry friends of Harper Perennial employees, authors, and friends. When it came to choosing the perfect pet to launch this new weekly-ish series, the choice was easy. So allow us to present . . . Jack!
Owner: Carrie Kania, aka The Boss
Motto: Books make good beds
Favorite food: take-out
Now, if you woke up to this adorable face every morning, don’t you think you could run four publishing imprints while being the best-dressed person at your office? I know I could.
Come back next week for more cuddly (and not-so-cuddly) companions!

I associate Vice Magazine with horribly mean and hilarious do’s and don’ts and oral histories of famous coke bars. But right now they’ve got a great feature on art inspired by Where the Wild Things Are. Check it out!
Pet-love has been at an all-time high in the office this week, and I am thrilled to have EB (who exudes cat-love from every pore) sharing the office wall with me for the last month (and in many months to come!) That said, with all the talk of zombies and the apocalypse these days, we’d like to kindly remind you of the importance of being ready for any emergency. This weekend, take a moment to consider how best you’d prepare your pet for war (courtesy of my new favorite site, TheOatmeal – like a snack for your funny bone.)
In other news: Congratulations to Andrew Broussard and Anne, winners of an indiscriminate eeny-meeny-minee-mo game and copies of TOTALLY KILLER! We enjoyed reading everyone’s comments, so please stay tuned this month for more chances to win good books (because you’re all cool people.) Ta!
